Leather 101

Genuine Leather

genuine leather usually comes from the layers below the grain since the grain will go through the treatment process. This process usually involves sanding or  buffing out the skin to remove any imperfection, it is then dyed or spray painted to give it its final appearance. This process is usually  referred to as correcting the leather. Check out Rose Anvil's explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64A1uLul7_Q

Bonded Leather

Bonded Leather is a mix of different kinds of leather that are mixed together with the use of plastics.  The materials are often from shredded leather scraps, leather fibers and sometimes artificial leather.  They are held together by bonding materials that unify them into a  singular fabric It is sometimes referred to as blended or split grain leather as well. Full Grain

Full Grain leather contains the outer layer of the hide which contains most of the strong fibers of the animal skin. This is  why full-grain is strong and durable. It does however make the leather tough and contains scars from the natural cuts and branding. These imperfections do not go through the sanding or buffing process and makes it desirable aesthetically.

PU Leather or vegetable Leather

Vegan Leather or Polyurethane leather is fake leather. It does not come from animal skin but an imitation of it. It has often had a leather look but  sometimes has a synthetic feel to it. PU leather is also not as strong nor as durable as real leather.  In our humble opinion, IT IS NOT LEATHER.  It is "Pleather."

Water Buffalo Leather

The buffalo leather has a unique and different grain pattern as compared  to cow or goat leather. This leather is extremely durable as the  buffalo skin is much thicker as compared to cow and other animal hides  generally in use. Besides being thick, this leather is still very soft  and flexible which makes it an ideal material for Premium leather goods.
